My Recent Story

The following is about my recent life changes and how “Dance Your Own Dance” has evolved to its current format.  Like many of you reading this, life has been speeding up and we have had a lot of changes and life redirection.

Easter Sunday 2011 I left my house for the day at 6am to compete with my two dogs at an agility competition about 50 miles away.  Little did I know at the time that my life would never be the same again and that I would not see my home for the next four weeks.

I was excited as both my dogs had been going quite well and the competition bug had got me. We had a pretty good day, did my first ever “Snooker” game with my big dog and we got a second and my speedy little terrier came first in his steeplechase event.  However when I packed up to go home I tripped over my tent rope in such a bizarre fashion that I landed in the field with my left leg at right angle at my knee. I had felt all sort of things rupture in my knee as I fell and looking down at my leg meant that I knew it wasn’t right.

People often say that in an extreme accident you don’t initially feel pain, and that was true for me.  Something/someone helped me as I received a force beyond me that “told” me to straighten my leg.  So I picked up my now completely rag doll leg and put it straight, lay back on the ground and then screamed for help. Since the accident I learned that probably if I had not straightened my leg the nerve may have been beyond repair and that I would have lost the use of my leg.

Since that life changing accident I have been battling on the road to recovery.  I believe that things happen for a reason and through all the pain and rehabilitation, through the grieving over what I can’t (and maybe wont) do again, I have learned an incredible amount about myself.

During this enforced sabbatical I have been plotting and planning and now am able to start to put together my plans so now watch out the World. And like the Phoenix I am rebuilding my life again almost it feels from scratch and would not have been able to do this without all the support and  healing I have had from those near and far.

Nine months on, countless hours at the Gym and in the Pool and painful stretches I am waiting for my next visit with my Consultant – prayers with me that the outcome will me good and that I will continue to improve and be able to return to dancing and running with my dogs.  I am back on feet to provide teaching, my massage and healing so thats a huge relief.

So the future?

The current workshops I am offering to Therapists are set to expand in order that I can
provide ways of helping many more people start their path that they are destined to follow.

And, I may just have to write that book or two that have been waiting in the wings!
